Empowering busy farmers with profitable, time efficient and professional grain marketing

farmgate advisory

Generating time and stress saving, coupled with additional marketing revenue, for all sized grain growers. We do this by making grain marketing more profitable, easy and affordable through personal professional advice and cost-effective brokerage.

Our Services

We have one service package to offer clients, our best, because nobody wants anything but the best. In this package, we offer you:

Strategy

Introduce strategy to your marketing. Are you looking to minimise exposure to prices falling? Is harvest cashflow a priority? Do you require leveraging against pre-harvest sales? Do you have on farm storage and capacity to capture domestic marketing premiums? This is just scratching the surface of the understanding we will get from you to tailor a strategy to navigate the markets each season.

Brokerage

Once we have decided today is the day to sell, we’ll consider all bulk exporters, both CBH and Bunge bulk handlers, container markets, domestic mills and crushes, feed lotters and livestock producers, present the best options back to you, negotiate the trade on your behalf, and ensure it is the best outcome for your business.

Arbitrage

In a season like 2018 when grade spreads have moved so much, it is vital that contracts are nominated to in a manner that maximises value for the grower. Taking advantage of a malt barley contract for example, with a $55/t spread can add $40/t to your grain marketing when spreads have diminished to $15/t by the end of harvest.

Market information and commentary

Daily and weekly information on your phone and email discussing domestic and international market drivers and buyer appetite affecting the markets beyond your farmgate. Live pricing information through an app/website for clients. Also, untimed and unlimited phone calls to your advisor to discuss markets and how you are best to market your grain.

FAQ

How will Farmgate Advisory add value to my business?

Several ways. By saving you time in finding the best prices and contracts each day. By negotiating a better deal with grain buyers. By arbitraging contracts at harvest to maximise the value of forward contracts. By freeing up time at harvest allowing you to carry on with operations. By opening up new opportunities to market your grain.

Am I too small to employ a professional marketer?

No. We can still add lots of value for growers producing a couple of hundred tonne a year.

I’ve never used a marketer as I can do a good job of it myself. Do I really need to change?

That’s great if you are, but please get in touch as you may be missing out on more. A bit like doing your taxes yourself, using an accountant will open up potential missed opportunities. Parcelling up grain, and arbitraging contracts between growers are two simple ways we can help add further value to your business.

Farming is expensive enough. I’m not sure if adding another expense to our business is right

We have an internal benchmark for every $1 we charge clients, we need to return them a minimum of $2. In that way, we don’t consider our service as an expense at all. It’s value creating. And we invoice after harvest, after the work is done, never before.

Here are a few of the most common questions asked of us at Farmgate Advisory. If you have a question that is not answered here, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
